Truce Between Iraqi Armed Groups and US Forces Ends

30 July

Shiite militias affiliated with the "Islamic Resistance of Iraq" movement have withdrawn their commitment to refrain from attacking US military bases in the region, according to Mahdi al-Kaabi, a representative of the Iraqi Shiite militia "Al-Nujaba."

Al-Kaabi, quoted by Al Hadath, stated, "The truce between armed groups and American forces is over."

Since the escalation of the conflict in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, there has been a notable increase in rocket and drone attacks on US military bases in Iraq and Syria. Shiite militias have warned that they will intensify their operations in these countries as long as the US continues to provide military aid to Israel. In response, US forces have conducted strikes on the militias' headquarters. In late January, Iraqi radical groups had announced a temporary suspension of their attacks on US targets to avoid undermining the Iraqi government in Baghdad.
