Ankara expects that a joint center for monitoring the ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh will be established in the very near future, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Tuesday following talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
"About Karabakh. We see that a ceasefire has been established. We hope that a joint ceasefire monitoring center will be established in the very near future," he said. - "We have to mobilize all our capabilities to strengthen and increase confidence, then we will be able to establish a lasting peace and thus normalize relations between the countries".
According to Cavusoglu, Turkey wishes for lasting peace in the region, so that there is no need for monitoring centers in the future. He spoke in favor of the prosperity of the region so that the countries focus on economic cooperation in the future.
On November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint statement on the full cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to the Russian leader, the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides are staying in the occupied positions, and Russian peacekeepers will be deployed in the region. A memorandum on the creation of a joint Russian-Turkish Center for Monitoring the Ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh was signed November 11 following talks via video link between the heads of defense ministries of the two countries.
