Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan continues to perform his duties and will resume participation in events after a short rest, spokesman for the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Omer Celik said on Twitter on Wednesday.
"Some foreign media are spreading immoral false news about Mr. President's health condition. Mr. President is in office. He will continue [to participate] in programs in the same spirit after a short rest," he stressed.
Celik also "expressed gratitude for the wishes for health and well-being" addressed to Erdogan. "We would like to thank for the wishes for a speedy recovery sent from people around the world," he added.
Earlier, Erkan Kandemir, MP from the ruling Justice and Development Party and its deputy chairman, said Erdogan would attend Thursday's nuclear fuel delivery ceremony at the Akkuyu nuclear power plant online. The Turkish leader was originally expected to attend the ceremony in person.
Earlier, Erdogan said he had canceled Wednesday's planned public speeches on the advice of doctors and would be recovering at home. On Tuesday evening, a live television broadcast with the president was cut short because he was not feeling well. According to the Turkish leader, it was caused by stomach flu. Erdogan was answering questions from journalists at Kanal7 and Ülke as part of the campaign ahead of Turkey's May 14 presidential election. A few minutes into the broadcast, it stopped for 20 minutes. Then the interview was resumed.
