The forthcoming visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Turkey will cover a range of issues, including Russian-Turkish energy cooperation, the development of a gas hub, the construction of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), and the revival of the grain corridor, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told A-haber TV in an interview.
"Presidential communications are frequent and productive. The upcoming visit is a scheduled event, where we aim to delve into cooperation in the energy sector, the Akkuyu NPP project, the grain corridor, which consistently features on our agenda, and the resolution of conflicts in Ukraine, among other regional concerns, including the situation in Gaza," Fidan explained.
He emphasized the importance of the grain corridor, stating, "This topic is always at the forefront of our discussions. President Putin and President Erdogan will certainly address this matter. We are currently in negotiations with Russia regarding this issue, particularly through the UN framework involving Russia, Ukraine, and Turkey. We are exploring the potential for a new grain transportation model to global markets via a Black Sea logistics corridor, moving beyond the previous mechanisms."
Fidan also touched upon security issues, particularly concerning Syria and the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). He noted Turkey's involvement in the Astana peace process and its sensitivity regarding the PKK, especially in regions like Manbij and Tel Rifat, where Russia also operates. He reiterated the importance of addressing these concerns, given the historical tensions and the shared interest in maintaining stability in the region.
Dmitry Peskov, Putin's spokesperson, previously confirmed that preparations for Putin's visit to Turkey are underway, and the Kremlin will announce the dates for the high-level meetings promptly.
