Turkmenistan expressed their interest in obtaining the Sputnik V vaccine

Turkmenistan expressed their interest in purchasing the Russian Sputnik V vaccine against the new coronavirus. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Health following the meeting between State Secretary - Deputy Minister of Health Alexandra Dronova and a delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Berdyniyaz Myatiev.

 

“The parties discussed the prospects for cooperation on the fight against the new coronavirus infection, in particular, concerning the Sputnik V vaccine developed by the National Research Centre for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Honorary Academician N. F. Gamalea of the Russian Ministry of Health. The Turkmen party expressed their interest in purchasing the Russian vaccine”, the statement says.  

 

According to the outcome of the negotiations, the parties noted that despite the challenging epidemiological situation, cooperation in the field of health is developing. “Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic video conferences have been organized both at ministerial and expert levels to discuss topical issues in the field of public health”, the press service says.

 

The coronavirus vaccine, which was registered by the Russian Federation on 11 August as the first in the world, was named “Sputnik V”. The vaccine was developed by the National Research Centre for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Honorary Academician N. F. Gamalea. Post-registration trials of the vaccine began on 7 September in Moscow. Volunteers received the first vaccine on 9 September.
