The United Nations Human Rights Office has condemned Israeli forces for “mass arrests, ill-treatment, and unwarranted humiliation of Palestinians” during recent raids in refugee camps and towns across the West Bank, as reported by Qatar’s Al Jazeera.
The UN agency's findings point to “inappropriate, disproportionate, and unlawful use of force” by Israeli forces in multiple Palestinian communities over the past month. Al Jazeera noted that, in many instances, there appeared to be no clear threat to public order or to the safety of Israeli soldiers.
One reported incident occurred during raids in Madama and Nablus on November 5 and 6, where 20 Palestinians were handcuffed and left blindfolded without food or water for several hours. Nine of the detainees were beaten. A similar situation unfolded on October 31 in Dura, where 35 Palestinians were detained. Israeli forces marked numbers on the detainees’ foreheads and paraded them through the town in handcuffs and blindfolds. Numerous reports also surfaced of property theft and physical abuse during these operations.
