The UN Security Council unanimously supported a resolution condemning the Taliban's ban on female employment, a TASS correspondent reported on Thursday.
Russia voted for the resolution, as did other members of the UN Security Council. Several dozen countries supported the resolution. The resolution condemns the ban on female employment and calls on Afghanistan's de facto authorities to abandon it.
The Taliban soon after coming to power in 2021 restricted girls and women from attending schools and universities. In 2022, restrictions on female employment were imposed, and in early 2023, the restrictions were strengthened. As a result, female staff from UN missions in Afghanistan have been unable to perform their duties for weeks at a time, reducing the world organization's humanitarian work in the country.
