US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had a telephone conversation with Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid on Monday and discussed Russia and Iran, according to a written statement released by State Department press chief Ned Price.
"The secretary of state and the foreign minister discussed the strong US-Israeli relationship and common challenges, including the risk of further Russian aggression against Ukraine as well as the threats posed by Iran," the text noted.
It stresses that the sides also discussed a Palestinian-Israeli settlement.
Lately, there have been statements in Western countries, as well as in Kiev, about Russia's possible invasion of Ukrainian territory. Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov called such information an empty and groundless escalation of tension. Peskov stressed that Russia posed no threat to anyone. At the same time, he did not rule out the possibility of provocations to justify such statements and warned that attempts to resolve the crisis in southeastern Ukraine by force would have the most serious consequences.
