US State Department: No Expectation of Complete Israeli Victory on Gaza Battlefield

14 May

The United States does not anticipate a complete Israeli victory on the battlefield in the war against the Palestinian movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip, stated US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell.

"I think that sometimes, when we listen carefully to Israeli leaders, they mostly talk about the idea of some decisive battlefield victory, a complete victory <...>. I don't think we believe that this [battlefield victory] is likely or possible," Campbell said to CNN.

"In the end, I think there has to be more of a political solution," he noted.

Earlier, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated that Washington does not believe that Israel's actions in Gaza can be characterized as genocide.
