Internet is becoming a tool for spreading radical ideology, in this regard, Uzbekistan calls for closer cooperation in the field of cyber security and creation of a unified network in Central Asia to counter cyber terrorism. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said this on Thursday in his greeting to participants of the high-level international conference "Regional cooperation of Central Asian states within the framework of a joint action plan to implement the UN global counter-terrorism strategy."
"Today, almost all countries are facing terrorism in cyberspace, in these circumstances, we call on the UN Counter-Terrorism Office to intensify its efforts to implement the Program on Cyber Security and New Technologies in Central Asia adopted in 2020. Under this program, we believe it is important to create a unified electronic network on cyber terrorism designed to promote the exchange of experience and data, research and best practices in this area," Mirziyoyev said.
The cross-border nature of security threats in cyberspace also requires the creation of unified legal mechanisms to effectively counter various forms of extremism, the Uzbek leader said.
The high-level conference is attended by UN Under-Secretary-General Vladimir Voronkov, Natalia German, head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, heads of foreign ministries of Central Asian states, representatives of the SCO, OSCE and other organizations.
The forum is expected to result in the adoption of the Tashkent Declaration and an updated action plan to implement the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
