Vaccination of the population against the coronavirus using the Russian drug Sputnik V began on Tuesday in Iran. The launch ceremony was broadcast by Iranian state television.
The first person in the country to receive the vaccine was the son of Said Namaki, Iran's Minister of Health and Medical Education.
Vaccination begins in several provinces of the country, including Tehran and Qom. Residents of the metropolitan area can get vaccinated at the Imam Khomeini Hospital.
As Ministry of Health representatives reported earlier, vaccination for the population will be free and voluntary. At the first stage, it is planned to vaccinate the workers of intensive care units. The next step will involve other medical personnel and the elderly over the age of 65.
The start of vaccination in Iran was made possible thanks to the delivery of the first batch of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V, which was delivered to Tehran on February 4. The next deliveries are scheduled for February and March. In addition, a joint Iranian-Russian vaccine production facility may be launched in the Islamic Republic within 2.5 months.
