Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin discussed with the Iranian Foreign Minister’s Senior Assistant for Special Political Affairs Ali Asghar Khaji the development of cooperation within the Astana format on Syria, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The telephone conversation was held at the Iranian side’s initiative.
"The main attention was paid to the development of cooperation in the framework of the Astana format in Syria, including the situation on the ground, humanitarian assistance, and measures of progress driven by Syrians with the support of the UN political process," the message reads.
They also considered and supported the efforts of the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, to establish contacts between the warring parties on the suspension of hostilities and the implementation of urgent humanitarian and socio-economic measures in Yemen, the Foreign Ministry added.
