State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin held a meeting with Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan Sadiq Sanjrani to discuss inter-parliamentary cooperation. The press service of the House of Parliament reported this on Wednesday.
"The parties discussed the development of inter-parliamentary relations, the importance of preserving language, faith, history and traditions in the new conditions of a multipolar world," the report said.
During the meeting, Volodin noted that the parliamentarians of Russia and Pakistan "need to meet more often and discuss not only the development of trade relations, but also to develop a common position on key issues such as preserving cultural heritage, historical memory, traditions, religion." "Today others are trying to dilute them, to impose different ones. We need to protect them," stressed the chairman of the State Duma, whose words are quoted in the message.
Volodin added that Russia builds its relations with other countries based on friendship, non-interference in internal affairs and mutually beneficial cooperation. He noted that the Pakistani speaker chose to speak in his native language (Urdu) for the meeting, abandoning English.
During the meeting, Volodin said that the economic ties between Russia and Pakistan are developing dynamically, the trade turnover between the countries in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year increased by almost 50%.
Sadiq Sanjrani invited Volodin to visit Pakistan. The chairman of the State Duma thanked for the invitation.
