Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin held discussions with Vahid Jalalzadeh, the Chairman of the Iranian Majlis Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy, regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip. This information has been reported on the State Duma's official website.
"Vyacheslav Volodin held a meeting with Vahid Jalalzadeh, the Chairman of the Iranian Majlis Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy. The discussion encompassed topics related to inter-parliamentary collaboration between Russia and Iran, the assurance of regional security, and the current situation in the Gaza Strip," as conveyed in the statement.
Jalalzadeh presented Volodin with a message from Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, which urges the condemnation of Israeli aggression and seeks additional support for the people of Palestine, including through parliamentary channels. Volodin was quoted as saying, "Washington is taking actions to deliberately escalate tensions in various parts of the world. It is attempting to maintain its dominance at the cost of this. As we can observe, the situation in Ukraine is entirely the result of US actions. Today, as the conflict rages in the Gaza Strip, leading to the loss of innocent lives, including children, women, and the elderly, we believe that Washington bears responsibility for this."
Volodin expressed his view that the United States employs double standards in its support of Jews. He remarked, "Through their intelligence agencies and collaborators in Ukraine, they have taken deliberate actions to incite violence against Jews. US and Ukrainian intelligence services are complicit in these actions. It's worth considering: on one hand, they protect Jews in the Middle East, particularly in Israel, and on the other hand, they engage in actions that harm the same Jewish communities, but in different countries. This is unacceptable."
In response, Jalalzadeh expressed gratitude to the Russian leadership "for the effective steps taken by Russia within the framework of the Security Council, as well as for Russia's positive vote in favor of the resolution adopted at the UN General Assembly." Speaker Volodin extended an invitation for the speaker of the Iranian Parliament to make an official visit to Russia.
The situation in the Middle East escalated dramatically when Hamas fighters from the Gaza Strip infiltrated into Israel on October 7. Hamas characterizes this attack as a response to Israeli actions concerning the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. In response, Israel imposed a total blockade on Gaza and initiated retaliatory strikes on the Strip, as well as in parts of Lebanon and Syria. Additionally, clashes are ongoing in the West Bank.
