Widodo says G20 is about economics, not politics

The Group of Twenty (G20) summit is held to discuss economic issues, not political ones. Indonesian President Joko Widodo stressed this when asked by reporters on Wednesday to comment on the allegations of a missile crash in Poland. His words were quoted by the White House press pool.

Widodo noted that he had not yet spoken to other leaders Wednesday. "The G20 is an economic forum, a financial forum, a diplomatic forum, not a political forum. So we're talking about the economy," he added.

Reporters from the White House press pool arrived in Bali, accompanying US President Joe Biden, who is attending the summit.

On Tuesday afternoon, there was an explosion in the village of Przewodow (Lublin Voivodeship), located in eastern Poland on the border with Ukraine. According to Polish authorities, a rocket fell in the area. Two Polish citizens were killed. An investigation is underway with the participation of foreign experts. According to Polish President Andrzej Duda, there is no evidence yet of who fired the missile. The Polish MFA said the missile was Russian-made. Russian ambassador to the republic Sergei Andreev was summoned to the ministry on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Russian defense ministry called the Polish media and officials' statements about the alleged Russian missiles dropping near Przewodow a provocation; there were no strikes by Russian weapons near the Ukrainian-Polish border. The Russian ministry pointed out that the pictures of the wreckage published by the Polish media from the site of the incident had nothing to do with the Russian missiles.
