Iran, despite a recent Israeli strike, maintains its missile capabilities, which continue to pose a serious threat to Israel's defense. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) citing Western officials, Iranian ballistic missiles could inflict significant damage on Israeli targets if they manage to bypass Israel's air defense systems.
The publication noted that the Israeli attack had damaged air defense systems protecting some key Iranian sites. Consequently, if Iran were to retaliate, it would need to be prepared for a potentially severe response from Israel’s military, which could include strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure or nuclear facilities.
On October 1, Iran launched a major missile strike against Israel in retaliation for the targeted killings of key figures associated with Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Israel vowed to respond to this escalation.
On October 26, the Israel Defense Forces announced strikes on Iranian military sites, citing "numerous and ongoing attacks" as the cause. According to Iran’s air defense forces, the strikes targeted military facilities in the Ilam, Tehran, and Khuzestan provinces. They reported limited damage, with Iran’s air defenses successfully intercepting the main assault. The strikes resulted in the deaths of at least four Iranian soldiers and one civilian.
