Russia and the United States have opportunities for a constructive dialogue on a number of issues related to the Middle East settlement, in particular, the solution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Russian Foreign Ministry official representative Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Friday.
"Our positions converge, at least in that the Palestinian issue should be resolved on the basis of the two-state principle - Palestine and Israel - approved by UN Security Council resolutions. <...> Are there opportunities for constructive Russian-American coordination on this issue? Yes, there is," she said.
She said that Russia and the United States also concur on the important role of the Quartet of international mediators for the Middle East (Russia, United States, UN and EU).
Zakharova pointed out that it is Washington that should comment on the US policy in this direction. "At the moment, the similarities of connections of approaches on the part of the United States are supported only by intentions in the form of statements, so we should wait for specific actions," the Russian Foreign Ministry representative added.
She also noted that the Russian Foreign Minister's Special Representative for the Middle East Settlement Vladimir Safronkov and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Hadi Amr have established a business contact.
