Deliveries of weapons from Russia to Afghanistan were made only to the legitimate government of the Republic, and not to representatives of the Taliban movement (prohibited in the Russian Federation), as claimed in the United States. This was stated at a briefing on Thursday by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.
"Russia supplied weapons only to the legitimate government of Afghanistan, which is well known," Zakharova said.
"In this context, it would be appropriate to recall actively circulating in Afghanistan, information regarding the support by the US intelligence of ISIS militants (formerly the banned terrorist group "Islamic state" - TASS) the same unmarked helicopters that we spoke about at briefings a year and a half or two ago," she added.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo at meetings with Russian colleagues "never raised this issue".
On Wednesday, Pompeo said at a briefing for journalists that Russia was acting in Afghanistan against the interests of the United States and allegedly for ten years had been supplying the country with small arms that endanger American troops. The head of American diplomacy also said that he had repeatedly raised this issue in contact with the Russian side.
