First military columns arrive to the places of deployment in Dagestan and Chechnya

The first columns with personnel and equipment of motorized rifle formations of the Southern Military District (SMD) have arrived to permanent deployment points in Dagestan and Chechnya after participating in exercises on the territory of the Crimean Peninsula, the Russian defense ministry reported  on Friday.


"The first units of motorized rifle formations of the Southern Military District stationed in the Chechen Republic and the Republic of Dagestan have arrived at their permanent deployment points after participating in planned tactical exercises on the territory of the Republic of Crimea," the ministry said in a statement.


The redeployment was carried out by rail as part of military columns. The length of the route exceeded 1.5 thousand kilometers. "In the near future, the personnel will have to carry out technical inspection and maintenance of the equipment, its preparation for further performance of planned activities of training and combat activities," the defense ministry noted.


The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue a set of large-scale measures of operational training of troops and forces, in which practically all military districts, fleets and the Airborne Forces are involved. Units of the Southern and Western Military Districts which have fulfilled training and combat tasks within the framework of the exercises have already started to load the troops on railway and automobile transport and have started moving to their garrisons. Individual units will march on their own as part of military columns, the ministry added.
