FSB detains members of an Islamist terrorist cell in three Russian cities

The FSB has detained members of a cell of an Islamist organization in Moscow, Krasnoyarsk and Novosibirsk who were calling for terrorist activities and raising funds for terrorists in Syria. This was reported to TASS by the Center for Public Relations (CPR) of the Russian FSB.


"The Federal security service of Russia in the cities of Krasnoyarsk, Moscow, and Novosibirsk, suppressed the activities of an interregional cell of the  Khatiba al-Tawhid wal-Jihad international terrorist organization (banned in Russia by a decision of the Moscow District Military Court in 2019), detained eight people from the Central Asian countries," the FSB reported.


According to the FSB, members of the cell financed a terrorist structure operating in Syria and also called for the commission of crimes of a terrorist nature in Russia.


During the arrest they found and seized communication equipment, electronic media and bank cards, used for illegal activities. Criminal proceedings have been instituted, and investigative actions and inquiries are continuing.
