FSB prevented preparation of a terrorist act by an IS supporter in Tver oblast

Russia's Federal Security Service in the Tver oblast prevented the preparation of a terrorist attack at a fuel and energy facility by a supporter of the terrorist organization "Islamic State" banned in Russia, he resisted and was killed during detention. This was reported to TASS on Thursday by the Center for Public Relations (CPR) of the Federal Security Service (FSB).


"The Federal Security Service in the Tver oblast prevented the preparation of a terrorist act planned by a member of the international terrorist organization "Islamic State" banned in the Russian Federation at one of the facilities of the fuel and energy complex," the CPR reported. "The criminal showed armed resistance during detention and was neutralized by retaliatory fire by special units of the Federal Security Service of Russia. Security officers and civilians were not harmed," the FSB noted.


According to the special service, a citizen of Russia, a native of one of the republics of the Central Asian region, acting on instructions from the leaders of terrorist structures, acquired weapons and components for the manufacture of an improvised explosive device. At his place of residence, he set up a laboratory for the synthesis of explosives. Firearms and ammunition, a ready-to-use improvised explosive device and the necessary components for its production were seized from him at the scene.


A criminal case was initiated on the fact of preparation for an act of terrorism.
