FSB prevented terrorist attacks in Moscow and Astrakhan region

Russia's FSB has prevented terrorist attacks in Moscow and the Astrakhan region by members of the international terrorist organization Islamic State banned in Russia, one of them offered armed resistance and was liquidated in the Astrakhan region, the second was detained in the capital. This was reported to TASS on Thursday in the Center of Public Relations (CPR) of the Federal Security Service of Russia.


"The Federal Security Service prevented the preparation of terrorist acts by members of the international terrorist organization Islamic State, which is banned on the territory of the Russian Federation. Acting on instructions from the leaders of the terrorist structure, two Russian citizens planned a simultaneous attack on residents of Moscow and the Astrakhan region with the use of firearms and cold weapons in places of mass gathering of people," the CPR reported.


When detained, one of the criminals in the Astrakhan region put up armed resistance. "He was neutralized by the forces of special units of the Federal Security Service of Russia by return fire. The second member of the cell was detained in Moscow. Security officers and civilians were not harmed," the FSB noted.


The terrorists found and seized automatic firearms and ammunition, an F-1 grenade, as well as religious extremist literature at their residence. Criminal proceedings were initiated for participation in the activities of a terrorist organization.
