Law enforcers have detained a supporter of the Islamic State (IS, banned in Russia) for trying to recruit students of the MIREA in religious extremist and terrorist activities. This was reported to TASS on Friday by the press service of the Russian Federal Security Service in Moscow and the Moscow region.

"Employees of the Federal Security Service of Russia in cooperation with the Russian Interior Ministry with the force support of the Rosgvardia as a result of the conducted complex of operational and investigative measures and actions have suppressed the activities of a supporter of the international terrorist organization "Islamic State", who made attempts to involve students of one of the Moscow universities in religious-extremist and terrorist activities," the press-service reported.

The department added that a citizen of the Central Asian republic, being a student of the RTU-MIREA, has repeatedly justified the activities of supporters of an international terrorist organization and promoted their ideology on the Internet. In addition, he disseminated materials aimed at forming a negative attitude toward traditional forms of Islam, as well as other religions, and called for the waging of an armed struggle to establish a caliphate in Iraq and the Syrian Arab Republic by the forces of "IS".

The case was prosecuted under Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public calls to terrorist activities or justification of terrorism"). The perpetrator was detained during a special operation in the dormitory.
