Russian President Vladimir Putin's article on the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, "Being Open, Despite the Past," is published on the Kremlin website on Tuesday, the Day of Memory and Grief.
The article is also due to appear Tuesday in the German online edition of Zeit Online and Thursday in the "Opinions" section of the weekly newspaper Die Zeit.
The Great Patriotic War began on June 22, 1941, when Nazi Germany attacked the Soviet Union without a declaration of war. In 2007, a law was passed to include the Day of Memory and Grief (June 22) in the list of anniversaries.
For the previous round date, in 2020, Putin published an article "75 years of the Great Victory: shared responsibility to history and the future".
