Military exercises have started in the Caspian Sea

The military exercises started in the Caspian Sea involving six Russian ships, seven airplanes and over 400 servicemen, the Russian Ministry of Defense told reporters on Friday.


"The exercise will take place in the central part of the Caspian Sea north of the Absheron peninsula. In total, six ships, seven airplanes and more than 400 servicemen will be involved in sea maneuvers", the report reads.


Four carriers of Kalibr cruise missiles - missile ships Dagestan, Tatarstan, small missile ships Uglich and Velikiy Ustyug - will be involved in the exercise. They will carry out control artillery and missile firing at sea against air and sea targets, and they will operate in the group together with aviation of the Southern Military District.


The main task of the exercise is to deploy forces to ensure a favorable operational regime, protect and defend maritime economic facilities, and destroy conventional illegal armed formations.

 

As the Ministry of Defense stressed, the activities carried out as part of the control check-up "do not pose any threat and do not impose restrictions on economic activities of the Caspian states.
