Peskov: coronavirus vaccination rates in Russia have increased significantly

28 October 2021

Vaccination rates against coronavirus in Russia have increased significantly recently, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday.

"Vaccination rates have gone up, thank God. We would like to hope that this trend will not weaken with the end of the off-day regime. But now the pace has increased significantly, which is good for all of us," said the Kremlin spokesman.

Mass vaccination of adults over 18 years old has started in Russian regions on January 18. Five vaccines against coronavirus have already been registered in the country: Sputnik V, Epivaccorona, Covivac, Sputnik Light and Epivaccorona-N.

The decision on mandatory universal vaccination against coronavirus in the Russian Federation has not been made, we need to look at further development of the situation. Peskov told reporters this, commenting on the Kremlin's attitude towards the initiative of the Association of retail companies and the Association of internet trading companies to make vaccination against coronavirus actually mandatory, but free even in private clinics.

"So far, no decisions have been made on this. We'll see how the situation develops from here," he said.

The Kremlin official drew attention to the statistical data, which "changes from day to day," and "is not yet a reason to be optimistic, especially today". "So we keep watching," he said.

The number of deaths in Russia increased by 1,159 overnight, a new peak since the pandemic began, according to data released Thursday by the federal operational headquarters for the coronavirus. The total number of infected during the day was 40,096, with 8,440 cases detected in Moscow.

Earlier, the president signed a decree establishing that from October 30 to November 7, 2021, there would be days off with pay for workers in Russia. Against this background, the government decided to resume lending to the affected industries at 3% per annum (FOT 3.0 program), as well as to introduce lump sum payments in the amount of one minimum wage per employee.
