Putin compared the situation with COVID-19 in Russia and other countries

The pandemic is gradually receding, Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with the Cabinet of Ministers.

"The number of people who are sick is decreasing. The number of people who, thank God, have recovered is steadily exceeding the number who have fallen ill lately," the president said.

He called the fatality rate satisfactory, "if we can talk about it at all in such categories."

"Nevertheless, compared to other countries it is true. We have about 12 sick people per one hundred thousand population. This is four times less than in many European countries," stressed the head of state.

He said that the production of vaccines against coronavirus is ahead of schedule and urged to reach a rate comparable to the flu vaccination.

In the recent campaign, 68 million Russians were vaccinated against influenza and two million against coronavirus so far.

The Sputnik V vaccine is now available to citizens. This is the world's first registered COVID-19 prophylactic drug developed by the Gamaleya Research Center and the Russian Direct Investment Fund. It was created on the basis of a well-studied and proven human adenoviral vector platform, important advantages of which are safety, efficacy and absence of long-term adverse effects.
