Russian President Vladimir Putin extended his heartfelt congratulations to the country's Muslim community on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr (Uraza Bayram), marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan. His message was published on the website of the Central Religious Board of Muslims (CRBM).
"Eid al-Fitr, one of the most revered Muslim holidays worldwide, symbolizes people's aspiration for moral self-improvement, mercy, and compassion," Putin stated in his message.
He highlighted the deep respect Russian Muslims have for their spiritual and historical heritage, as they continue to honor the traditions and teachings of their ancestors while passing them down to future generations. This, he noted, is why the holiday is widely celebrated across the country.
Putin also praised the significant contributions of Muslim organizations to Russia’s social and cultural life, particularly their charitable, educational, and patriotic initiatives. He expressed appreciation for their support of participants and veterans of the special military operation, as well as their families.
"I wish you good health, success in your endeavors, and all the best," the president concluded.
About the Holiday
Ramadan is one of the most important religious observances in Islam. Fasting during this month is one of the five pillars of Islam, alongside the declaration of faith, daily prayers, charity, and pilgrimage to Mecca. From dawn to sunset, Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, dedicating themselves to worship and acts of kindness.
This year, Ramadan concludes in late March, and Eid al-Fitr is traditionally celebrated for three days. While the holiday is known in Arabic as Eid al-Fitr, in the Turkic tradition, it is referred to as Uraza Bayram.
