Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a telegram of condolences to Governor Vladimir Solodov of Kamchatka Territory in connection with the crash of the An-26 aircraft.

"It is with sorrow that I learned of the An-26 plane crash near the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. This tragedy cut short the lives of the crew and passengers and brought immeasurable grief of loss to their relatives. Please convey your words of sympathy and support to the families and loved ones of the victims," says the text of the telegram published on the Kremlin website on Wednesday.

On July 6, the passenger plane An-26 belonging to Kamchatka Air Company and performing a flight Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky - Palana crashed in the afternoon. There were 22 passengers and 6 crew members on board. The wreckage, according to the MES, was found 3.8 km away from Palana airport. According to one of the versions, the cause of the crash could have been a pilot error due to poor visibility. The bodies of 19 dead were found at the scene of the tragedy.

Solodov declared a three-day mourning period in the region for the dead. It will last from July 7 to 9.
