05 November 2020

Russian President Vladimir Putin promised Muslims to celebrate 1100 years of adoption of Islam by  Volga Bulgaria in 2022.

"There is no doubt that we will respond to all these events, which are ahead of us, and there is still time. We will prepare well, together with you, we will discuss what exactly, in what time frame we need to do it, what events we will do, with dignity, how we are able to do it at a good state level," Putin said at a meeting with religious leaders after the proposal of  head of the Russian Muftis Council, Ravil Gainutdin, to celebrate the 1100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam in the state of Volga Bulgaria in the Volga region.

According to him, the special significance of this date lies in the fact that "Islam was established in the Volga region by the free choice of peoples and from there was distributed purely peacefully".

Gainutdin added that also in 2022 will be celebrated the 200th anniversary of the founding of a mosque in Moscow on Bolshaya Tatarskaya Street. "We petition for reconstruction in honor of this important anniversary, bearing in mind the significance of the historic mosque as a guardian of the traditions of Zamoskvorechye," he said.
