Authorities of all levels should offer citizens non-burdensome but necessary measures and means of protection against coronavirus, said Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Our sacred duty, the professional community, leaders of all levels of government and government - very carefully, tactfully, but patiently and persistently explain to people the realities of the current situation and offer non-burdensome but absolutely necessary measures and remedies," Putin said on Tuesday at a meeting with members of the government via video conference.
He noted that people are tired of wearing masks, keeping their distance and other restrictions imposed by the coronavirus. "I understand them very well," the president said.
"Strange as it may seem, people still do not always feel, understand, and therefore do not always believe that the whole world has faced, and we in Russia too, with a very dangerous opponent. Infectious diseases and COVID are not least a quiet, invisible but very dangerous enemy. People often do not feel this," Putin said.
The President reminded that a significant part of competence in the fight against COVID-19 has been transferred to the heads of regions. "So far we have been doing well. I hope that we will continue acting in the same mode," he said.
"The fact that we see more people getting sick in Moscow is not a new situation either. It was the same in spring. But this means that in the regions, understanding this, we must be ready for any development of the situation," Putin stressed.
