The Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha will be held by a number of restrictions due to the coronavirus. First Deputy Chairman of the Russian Muftis Council and the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation Rushan Abbyasov explained in an interview with Sputnik radio what exactly believers would have to face.

The Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha is on Friday, July 31, and the next two days off. A special feature of the festival is the rite of sacrifice with the subsequent distribution of meat of the sacrificial animal to the needy. This ritual involves a large number of contacts with other people, which is contrary to regulations during a coronavirus epidemic.

In an interview with Sputnik radio, Rushan Abbyasov told what restrictions remained for the celebration of Eid al-Adha.

"Just recently, we celebrated the month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, but then everything was more strict. Then we held all the sermons online. Now some regions have been eased. It is allowed to hold the festival in open areas, taking into account the social distance, wearing masks. However, people over the age of 65 are not recommended to attend such events, as they are at risk. We encourage the faithful to try to stay at home on this day. To do this, we have agreed with the regional authorities to conduct online broadcasts, " Rushan Abbyasov said.

According to him, in addition to transferring prayers from mosques to online mode, it is planned to entrust new technologies with other important tradition-to congratulate relatives and friends remotely.

"Health is a gift of the Almighty, and we must protect it, and our health and the health of others. Those who feel unwell, are better to stay at home, so as not to catch an infection or spread their disease further. During the three holidays of Eid al-Adha, we should congratulate each other. Today, there are mobile apps for this purpose. And in those regions where everything is in order, you can visit your close ones, " Rushan Abbyasov said.
