Russian Presidential Elections Scheduled for March 17, 2024

The Federation Council has set the presidential elections for March 17, 2024. The chamber unanimously approved the resolution, and its text is available to RIA Novosti.

 

"To schedule the presidential elections of the Russian Federation for March 17, 2024. This decree shall come into effect from the date of its official publication," the document reads.

 

The Federation Council, exercising its exclusive powers under the Constitution, has set the date for the presidential elections on March 17, 2024.

 

According to the Speaker of the House, Valentina Matviyenko, this decision marks the commencement of the election campaign. She emphasized that the upcoming elections represent a pivotal political event that will significantly influence the direction of Russia's development.

 

Ella Pamfilova, Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), expressed gratitude to the senators for their decision.

 

"Thank you for establishing the essential legislative framework to ensure the elections are conducted with integrity. The forthcoming elections will significantly contribute to securing Russia's development and its success in this challenging geopolitical struggle," she said during the meeting.

 

The head of the commission mentioned that there is consideration for the possibility of holding a three-day voting period. The Central Election Commission (CEC) will finalize the election procedure in the new regions after consulting with the Federal Security Service (FSB), the Defense Ministry, and governors.
