More than 5,000 soldiers of the southern military district have started two-way battalion tactical exercises simultaneously on the territory of five regions of the North Caucasus and Transcaucasia, the press service of the southern military DISTRICT reports.
Maneuvers in preparation for the large-scale exercises "Caucasus-2020" are held in Dagestan, North Ossetia, Chechnya, as well as at military bases in South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
"Battalion tactical groups of motorized rifle, tank and artillery military units marched in a combined way to the combined arms ranges, where they will perform training tasks with live firing," the report says.
Fire support and rapid delivery of personnel of tactical air assault combat groups are provided by aircraft and helicopters of the air force and air defense association of the district.
At the stages of combat shooting, artillery divisions and batteries of multiple rocket systems "Tornado", "Grad", self-propelled installations "Msta-S", "Gvozdika", "Acatsiya" will be involved. The reconnaissance fire systems include T-72B3, T-90 tanks and BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles.
"Battalion tactical exercises, as well as a number of special exercises, are the basis for preparing for the strategic command and staff exercise "Caucasus-2020",-the words of the commander of the southern military district, army General Alexander Dvornikov are quoted.
He assigned the task to the regional control center to provide video monitoring from all the locations of the exercise in real-time.
