WHO allowed the return of restrictions in Russia due to coronavirus

10 July 2020

The representative of the World Health Organization in Russia Melita Vujnovich in an interview with RIA Novosti did not rule out that the country will again have to introduce restrictive measures because of the coronavirus.

"If physical distance is not observed<...>, if cases start to grow, there will simply be no other way," Vujnovich said, answering a question about whether there was a risk that some bans would be returned in Russia, as happened in a number of countries.

According to her, the probability of returning bans will exist as long as there is no vaccine or medicine for coronavirus in the world.

"We must be prepared for this. It is better to let it be earlier, do not wait for the virus to spread even more. The fire should be put out while it's small," said Vujnovich.

According to the latest data, in Russia, the number of detected cases of COVID-19 increased by 6,509 per day and amounted to 707,301. The largest number of new patients is in Moscow — 568, Saint Petersburg-292, and the Sverdlovsk region — 276.
