A mosque named after the Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov’s great-grandfather, Abdul Kadyr, will open in the village of Dzhamlayla Alikhanov on Sunday.
‘This Sunday, on September 5, friends, we will open a magnificent new mosque in Grozny’s urban district. It will appear in the village of Dzhamlayla Alikhanov (former village of Gikalo) and will become the 1308th mosque to open in the Chechen Republic. At the request of the village residents, the mosque will be named after my dear great-grandfather, Abdul Kadyr’, Ramzan Kadyrov said on his Vkontakte social network page.
Abdul Kadyr was an associate of Sheikh Kunta Hajji Kishiev and served as a mullah. For 40 years he taught children in a madrasah in the village of Ilaskhan-Yurt. He died in 1925 (the date of birth is unknown).
Various buildings in Chechnya are named after representatives of Ramzan Kadyrov’s family, including religious ones. The Heart of Chechnya mosque named after Akhmat Hajji, the largest in Russia and Europe, was opened in 2008. Another large mosque in Argun, ‘Heart of Mother’, with 15 000 seats, was opened in 2014. It was named after Ramzan Kadyrov’s mother, Aimani.
In addition to it, a capsule was laid in Grozny in 2021 at the site of the future construction of a mosque to be named after the region’s leader himself.
