Chechnya claimed to be the first Russian region to achieve collective immunity to COVID-19

The Chechen Republic has achieved a collective immunity to coronavirus of 60%, having 568,000 people vaccinated, the republic's Health Minister Elkhan Suleimanov said.

"The Chechen Republic is the first to reach a vaccination coverage of 60% of the adult population. If you remember, there was an appeal from the head of the republic, after which people actively started vaccinating. Of the 909,000 adult population, 568,000 have already been vaccinated," said Suleimanov.

According to him, the number of coronavirus patients in the republic has now decreased by half. "Of course, an immunological belt has formed, but nevertheless there may be episodic cases in the remaining unvaccinated part, so we urge to be vaccinated and raise the degree of protection. 60% coverage of the population allows us to count on reducing the number of patients in medical institutions. We would like at least to bring the mortality rate down to zero, and this is possible only after vaccinating the entire population," the head of the department said.

Earlier, Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov urged to fully vaccinate the adult population of the republic against coronavirus, not limiting it to 60%.
