IS supporter who prepared a terrorist attack in the Astrakhan region was sentenced to 13 years in prison

A court has sentenced to 13 years in prison a supporter of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization banned in Russia, who prepared an attack on law enforcers in the Astrakhan region, the Russian Federal Security Service's Center for Public Relations (CPR) told TASS on Wednesday, specifying that the sentence came into legal force.


"The verdict of the Southern District Military Court against Artur Serikovich Satimirov, born in 1987, found guilty of preparing to commit a terrorist attack, participation in the activities of a terrorist organization and illegal possession of weapons has entered into legal force. He was sentenced to 13 years' imprisonment, four of which will be served in prison, and nine years in a strict regime colony," said the CPR.


FSB officers detained him in 2020. Satimirov is a supporter of the "Islamic State." "At the direction of foreign emissaries of the ITO, he was preparing to commit a terrorist act against law enforcement officers," the FSB reported. After implementing his criminal plan, he intended to go to the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic for further participation in the hostilities on the side of terrorist structures.


The FSB reported that Satimirov's home was searched in the framework of the criminal case. Firearms, ammunition, prohibited extremist literature were found and seized at his place of residence.
