The day off was announced in Kabardino-Balkaria (KBR) on July 31 in connection with the holiday Kurban Bayram. The corresponding decree was signed by the head of the republic Kazbek Kokov.
"In connection with the appeal of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Kabardino-Balkaria Republic on the occasion of the holiday of Kurban Bayram, celebrated from July 31 to August 2, 2020, I decide: to declare July 31, 2020, a non-working day in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic," the document says.
Kurban Bayram, the holiday of sacrifice, is celebrated on the tenth day of the 12th month of the Muslim lunar calendar and marks the end of the Hajj, the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca. In Kurban Bairam the divine service traditionally begins with sermons and festive namaz, culminating with animal sacrifice.
