Rescuers of the Elbrus high-altitude search and rescue team of the EMERCOM of Russia hoisted the Victory banner and a anniversary wimpel signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on the top of Elbrus, the head of Kabardino-Balkaria Kazbek Kokov said, RIA Novosti reports.
"On the eve of the most important date for all of us – the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, I gave the head of the Elbrus district Kansaubiy Zalikhanov the Victory banner and the anniversary wimpel signed by the President of our country Vladimir Putin. Today, the team of the Elbrus high-altitude search and rescue team of the Russian EMERCOM has placed them on the top of the highest mountain in Europe-Elbrus, " Kokov wrote in particular on his Instagram account.
Six rescuers took part in the ascent, as the head of the Elbrus detachment, Abdullah Guliyev, told the Agency in an interview.
"On Thursday night, in difficult weather conditions associated with fog and snow, the guys hoisted the Victory banner on the Western top of Elbrus. Now we are preparing to meet them, " he explained.
