The Russian Federal Security Service in Karachay-Cherkessia detained a supporter of the international terrorist organization banned in Russia, "Islamic State" (IS), who was preparing an attack on the facilities of the authorities and law enforcement. This was reported to TASS on Friday in the Center of Public Relations (CPR) of the Federal Security Service of Russia.
"The Federal Security Service on the territory of the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic has suppressed the activities of a supporter of the international terrorist organization (ITO) "Islamic State" banned in Russia, who was planning to commit a terrorist act on one of the objects of authorities and law and order on the instructions of a foreign ITO emissary," the FSB noted.
He was detained while preparing a terrorist attack in Karachayevsk.
Video footage of the FSB showed that the detainee confessed to preparing an act of terrorism.
Components used for making an improvised explosive device were seized at the place of the terrorist's residence, as well as other materials, exposing his criminal intentions. Criminal proceedings were initiated under Part 1 of Article 30, Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code ("Preparation for a terrorist attack") and Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code ("Participation in activities of a terrorist organization").
