Kazan has started preparations for the BRICS heads of state meeting, which will be held in the capital of Tatarstan next year. This was announced by Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin at a videoconference meeting of the Council for Local Self-Government Development under Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Special thanks for entrusting next year's [summit] BRICS. We have started preparing for this event. We hope that we will hold it at a high level. This will be a new page in our international agenda," Metshin said.
At the beginning of April Vladimir Putin signed a decree according to which the meeting of the BRICS heads of state will be held in Kazan in 2024. According to the document, Assistant to the Russian President Yury Ushakov was appointed chairman of the organizing committee.
