Mosques have been opened in the North Caucasus and some restrictions due to the coronavirus have been lifted

09 June 2020

Regions of the North Caucasian Federal District are gradually lifting restrictions previously imposed by the coronavirus pandemic. In particular, mosques, dental clinics and law offices are being opened.

But in a number of regions the time limits are extended due to the complex epidemic situation.

The situation is under control

According to the regional operational headquarters, 436 new cases of coronavirus infection have been reported in the North Caucasian Federal District over the past 24 hours, with a total of 21,312 infections in the regions since the pandemic began.

Now the largest number of cases is observed in Dagestan, where the daily increase is 112 cases, the least increase was in the Chechen Republic - plus 20 per day. In the regions of the North Caucasus Federal District, where the situation with the coronavirus is particularly difficult, a team of doctors from Moscow continues to work, which allows stabilizing the situation.

To help fight the coronavirus, a team of doctors from the Russian Ministry of Health arrived in Dagestan in May. They have visited more than 20 districts and consulted more than 350 patients with severe course of infection.

In Ingushetia, Moscow doctors have consulted about 250 people, according to TASS. Local authorities note that despite the complexity of the situation, now it is under control.

However, in a number of regions, self-isolation regimes are being extended. Thus, on Monday, the head of Karachay-Cherkessia, Rashid Temrezov, announced the extension of self-isolation until June 15, due to an increase in the number of infected. “The growth is due to two reasons: the development of the epidemic process itself – we are at its peak in terms of morbidity - and an increase in the number of tests conducted”, Temrezov wrote on Instagram.

In the Stavropol Krai the regime of general self-isolation has been extended and is valid until June 14 inclusive, also in the region there is a mandatory mask regime.

“The dynamics of the disease remain the same; there are no leaps. We are conducting more and more tests, which means we can more and more closely monitor and interrupt the chains of transmission. The capacity of medical institutions to help the sick is quite sufficient, the main part of the bed fund created by us is free”, the Governor of the region Vladimir Vladimirov wrote on his page on Instagram.

Mosques, law offices are being opened

In Ingushetia, on Monday, June 8, the first stage of the lifting of restrictions began. Lawyers’ and notary’s offices and transport hubs began their work, and all means of transport began to operate. It is planned to open private clinics and dentists by appointment.

Chechnya was the first in the North Caucasian Federal District to open mosques. The head of the republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, said that the next Friday juma namaz would be held in all mosques in the region. This decision was taken on the basis of a comprehensive analysis of the current situation with the coronavirus and after agreement with Mufti Salakh Mezhiyev. At the same time, all requirements of social distance and other protection measures will be met in the mosques.

However, some regions are not going to lift restrictive measures - for instance, the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, where, on the contrary, the incidence is increasing. Here, it has been decided to postpone the opening of mosques. “We appeal to the residents of the republic to demonstrate conscientiousness, not to visit places of mass congregation, not to gather at funeral processions without necessity (the exception is close relatives), and if there is an extreme need - to be careful and use personal protective equipment. We urge Muslims to take this issue with understanding and show patience”, the management of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of Kabardino-Balkaria says.

In Dagestan, mosques are ready to be visited by residents, but have not yet opened. “Mosques are ready to receive parishioners, they have been or are being disinfected, but have not yet opened because we are waiting for permission from the regional Rospotrebnadzor Directorate”, the press service of the Dagestan Muftiate told TASS.

Free medicines and bride price assistance

During the pandemic, residents of the regions faced various and most unexpected difficulties, and the authorities and the public come to the aid. For example, in the Chechen Republic the Akhmat Kadyrov Public Foundation will allocate funds to young people in Chechnya for bride price, without which it is impossible to hold a wedding according to traditional rites. The aid of more than 10 million rubles will be distributed among 207 families experiencing financial difficulties in the conditions of the pandemic.

In North Ossetia, some categories of residents will receive free medication to treat coronavirus. Military servicemen, their families, participants in the Great Patriotic War and Interior Ministry employees can receive free medication. The list of free medications includes all medications prescribed by a doctor on prescription.
