Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs Natalia Poklonskaya said that the resolution proposed by Ukraine of the UN General Assembly, which condemns human rights violations in the Crimean region, was another political decision of the biased countries, which has nothing to do with caring about the Crimeans.
The day before the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly on social issues and humanitarian issues adopted a document, proposed by Kiev, condemning "annexation" and "temporary occupation" of Crimea by Russia. Among other things, it is about 'imposing' Russian citizenship, holding 'illegal election campaigns and voting', changing the demographic composition of Crimea's population and suppression of national identity. The project was co-sponsored by Georgia, Germany, the USA, Great Britain, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and several other countries. The resolution was supported by 63 countries, 85 abstained and 22 were against it.
"The resolution has nothing to do with concern for human rights in the Crimea: it is yet another political decision of the engaged countries, condemning Russia, and they don't care about people's rights in general, in Crimea in particular. None of those who voted for even tried to hear the people whose rights they so zealously defend," Poklonskaya told RIA Novosti.
According to her, the Crimeans held a referendum to protect their lives and homes from radical forces that have seized power in Ukraine, and have repeatedly appealed to the international community to condemn the actions of the Ukrainian authorities to deprive people of the right to freshwater by blocking the North Crimean Canal.
"'But the UN cannot even look in the direction of people, there is only malevolence against Russia. And even if it was possible to cut off oxygen to 'disobedient residents of Crimea' by Ukrainian authorities, Russia would be to blame, according to the international organization, which is supposed to protect human rights," the deputy said.
