Dagestan Sends 200 Tons of Humanitarian Aid to Palestinians Since Fall 2023

05 April

Dagestan has dispatched over 200 tons of humanitarian aid, gathered by residents of the region, to the Gaza Strip since the onset of the escalation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. This announcement was made by Sergei Melikov, the head of Dagestan, during a meeting with ambassadors from nine Muslim countries.

The preceding day, delegates from Turkey, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Mauritania, Iran, Iraq, and Uzbekistan arrived in Dagestan to participate in a collective iftar (breaking of the fast during the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims) and engage in religious activities.

"We stand united in expressing our concern for the plight of the Palestinian people. And I am authorized to speak on behalf of all the people of Dagestan. Since October 7, from the onset of the tragic events in the Gaza Strip, the people of Dagestan have extended their support to the Palestinian people through prayers. Furthermore, more than 200 tons of humanitarian aid were collected by ordinary Dagestanis and dispatched to assist the people of Palestine," stated Melikov.

The regional leader also highlighted that Dagestan has provided refuge for over 150 internally displaced persons from Palestine.
