On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin accepted Vladimir Vasilyev's resignation as head of Dagestan, the Kremlin press service reported.
"Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree "On early termination of powers of the head of the Republic of Dagestan", - the press service reported.
They added that the decree was signed "in connection with the statement of the head of the Republic of Dagestan Vasilyev on early termination of powers. By another decree Putin appointed Vasilyev as his advisor. Sergey Melikov, a member of the Federation Council from Stavropol Krai, was appointed Acting head of the republic.
The head of state highly appreciated Vasilyev's activity as the head of Dagestan.
"You have done a lot for the development of the republic, especially at this difficult time. You were not afraid to take on many things and you did your duty with great dignity," Putin said during a video conference with Vasilyev.
Putin suggested that the time of work at the head of Dagestan since October 2017 for Vasilyev flew like one day. "That's for sure, Vladimir Vladimirovich," Vasilyev confirmed. "The work is interesting, the people are interesting, the republic. Everything is unique there," Putin added. "Absolutely," Vasilyev agreed.
The President instructed Melikov to continue work on the decriminalization of the republic.
