Two ringleaders and three members of the Hizb ut-Tahrir terrorist organization banned in Russia have been detained in Crimea. The FSB Public Relations Center told TASS that the detainees were recruiting Crimean Muslims.
"Employees of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation in cooperation with units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Federal National Guard Troops Service of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Crimea have suppressed the activities of a cell of the international terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami (banned in Russia by a decision of the Russian Supreme Court in 2003), detained two leaders and three of its active participants," the FSB reported.
According to the special service, members of the cell "carried out anti-constitutional activities based on the doctrine of creation of a so-called worldwide caliphate and destruction of institutions of secular society and aimed at overthrowing the current authorities by force". "During the meetings, they used conspiracy measures to spread terrorist ideology among the residents of the peninsula and recruited Crimean Muslims into their ranks," the FSB explained.
A significant amount of banned Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami propaganda materials, means of communication and electronic media were found and seized at the places of residence of the detainees. The investigating authorities initiated criminal proceedings. Investigative measures and actions are continuing.
