The Russian Federal Security Service prevented a terrorist attack in Simferopol by detaining two supporters of the terrorist organization banned in Russia, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, who were preparing an attack on an educational institution using homemade bombs. This was reported to TASS on Friday by the Center for Public Relations (CPR) of the Russian Federal Security Service.
"The Federal Security Service prevented a terrorist act in the Republic of Crimea. Two Russian citizens born in 1992 and 1999, who are supporters of the international terrorist organization banned in Russia, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, were detained while preparing an armed attack using improvised explosive devices on one of the educational institutions in Simferopol," the CPR reports.
According to the special service, after committing the attack, they planned to transit through Ukraine and Turkey to Syria to join an international terrorist organization.
The FSB reported that the components for the manufacture of an improvised explosive device with striking elements and explosives were seized from the detainees. In their means of communication they found instructions for the manufacture of explosives and explosive devices, correspondence, exchange of voice messages with emissaries of the international terrorist organization to discuss the planned terrorist attacks, confirming the involvement of the detainees in propaganda and financing of terrorism.
Criminal charges were filed under Part 1.1 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code ("Contributing to Terrorist Activities"), Part. 2 of Article 205.2 ("Propaganda for terrorism") and part 1 of Article 223.1 ("Illegal manufacturing of explosive devices"). The issue of initiating a case of preparation for an act of terrorism is also being discussed.
