Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the Russian government and the authorities of the Republic of Crimea to help complete the construction of a cathedral mosque in Simferopol. Those in charge must report on the work done by October 1, the corresponding order was published on the Kremlin website on Monday.
On March 18, during Putin's communication with residents of the Crimean peninsula from the site of the cathedral mosque, the Deputy Mufti of Muslims of Crimea Aider Ismailov addressed the President via video link. He noted that the construction is nearing completion, and the finishing work is underway. Ismailov invited the head of the state to the mosque opening ceremony. The President promised that he would try to attend the event and noted the importance of the project.
"The Government of the Russian Federation together with the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Crimea and with the involvement of interested organizations to provide the necessary assistance in completing the construction of the cathedral mosque in the city of Simferopol," the list of instructions from the meeting with representatives of the public of Crimea and Sevastopol reads.
Responsible is Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and the head of Crimea Sergey Aksenov. They will have to report by October 1.
According to the project, the total area of the Cathedral mosque in Simferopol will be 5.7 thousand square meters, a capacity - 2.6 thousand people. The structure consists of two parts - the main building with a dome and a courtyard with colonnades and a place for ablution before performing namaz. Construction of the mosque began in October 2016. The completion date of the project has been postponed several times, including due to the situation with the coronavirus, now it is assumed that it will be delivered in 2022.
