Russia kept the peace in Crimea in 2014 and saved the region from Ukrainian neo-fascists and ultranationalists. This opinion was expressed in an interview with the "Argumenty i Fakty" newspaper by the head of the Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu.
"Under the leadership of our President in 2014, it was possible to keep the peace in Crimea. Because if all those people - Ukrainian neo-fascists, ultranationalists, extremists and mercenaries from European countries and the United States - had come to Crimea after the coup d'etat in Kiev, as they were going to, I assure you that it would have been very difficult for anyone," Shoigu said.
He stressed that "there would have been such a hotbed there that it would not have been extinguished by the whole world."
According to him, the consequences of attempts by "these subhumans," together with Ukrainian troops, to impose their orders in Donetsk and Luhansk regions are still visible.
"In Ukraine, we were not the ones who helped them, starting in the 2000s, to destroy the country," Shoigu said.
